The new LEED platinum REACH Ashland Youth Center, a 2013 AIA East Bay Merit Design Award winner, sits on the Old Holland Oil site, a brown field rehabilitation project that was redeveloped into a community park and youth center. The Center was identified by the local community as a primary need for redevelopment in the Ashland area. The project includes job training and educational assistance programs, school-based/linked health clinic, child care facilities related to the "Cal Safe" Program, office, indoor athletic facilities supported by the Deputy Sheriff's Activities League, teen oriented library, classroom and meeting space, media recording studios, dance studio, computer lab, recreation areas and a cafe. The Center complements the new gymnasium on the adjacent Edendale Middle School. mack5 responsibilities included design-phase project management, total project budgets and financial management, cost planning/estimating, schedule review/analysis, constructability review, implementation planning, consultant management (testing & inspections, LEED commissioning, labor compliance), and construction management of the Design/Build contractor. mack5 was also instrumental in researching and defining the medical and dental requirements for the Wellness Center that now provides a state of the art facility for the local community.
