mack5 provided Project Management, Cost Management, and Construction Management services for the seismic retrofit and renovation of the Richmond Memorial Civic Center including the City Hall, former Hall of Justice, Auditorium/Convention Center, Art Center, Civic Plaza and significant public art. The project has received a number of awards including the California Preservation Foundation Preservation Design Award 2010, McGraw Hill California Construction Northern California Best of 2009 Top Government/Public Project / Top Project Overall; and the San Francisco AIA Honor Award 2010 for Historic Preservation & Innovation in Rehabilitation. Working with mack5, the Owner saved significant costs on the $103 million total project, which the City chose to reinvest in the project, elevating it from LEED Silver to LEED Gold certification. mack5 responsibilities included negotiating and managing the Design-Build contract, and ensuring the project was completed on time and under budget. The design-build contract included a second General Contractor with responsibility for one of the buildings, four design-build engineering subcontractors, and over 50 subcontractors and consultants.
